India’s long-term progress is inextricably linked to the health, productivity, and resilience of its people. The next phase of nation-building requires a transition from episodic treatment to a holistic, prevention-first, and technology-enabled public health architecture that can absorb shocks from infectious diseases to lifestyle-related disorders. The National Health Mission program examines how India can achieve universal access to high-quality care while strengthening institutional capacity, enhancing workforce depth, and ensuring system-wide affordability, thereby ensuring that even the most remote and vulnerable populations benefit from national development.
The National Health Mission program integrates public health science, digital health innovation, financing models, and systems-governance research to build implementation-ready pathways for health transformation. We focus on scaling telemedicine and diagnostics, strengthening district-level critical care, expanding medical and nursing capacity, modernizing disease surveillance and emergency response, and creating an interoperable health data ecosystem anchored in the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. Our work also evaluates pharmaceutical and med-tech ecosystems, insurance mechanisms, and the integration of AYUSH for evidence-based holistic well-being. We will develop detailed policy roadmaps to build a resilient, equitable, globally competitive, and technology-powered healthcare system aligned with the vision of a Swasth, Surakshit, and Samarth Bharat.
